Weekly Update, Week Ending October 17, 2008

Preparing soil for barrier wall
Sevenson Environmental, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, is continuing mobilization activities, which includes bringing construction equipment, materials and temporary facilities to the site. Sevenson is currently finalizing activation of the electrical service with LIPA. Pre-trenching activities were initiated this week.  Debris that is removed during pre-trenching is placed inside the designated storage pad, sprayed with long duration foam and covered with a plastic liner to mitigate any potential odors until the debris is removed from the site for disposal.

Equipment for waste water
treatment plant
Sevenson’s soil mix wall subcontractor, Geocon, has mobilized soil mixing equipment to the site. The assembly of the crane and batch plant has been completed. Geocon initiated construction of the soil mix wall on Thursday in the southwest corner of the site adjacent to the Post Office.

Two-Week Outlook

Sevenson is expected to continue the mobilization of equipment, materials, and temporary facilities. Mobilization and set-up of the water treatment plant and the temporary fabric structure will begin. Sevenson and Geocon are also expected to continue pre-trenching activities and the construction of the soil mix wall along the perimeter of the work area.

General hours of operation will continue to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
