Weekly Update, Week Ending January 9, 2009

Dewatering system well point

Sevenson Environmental, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, continued mobilization of equipment and materials, and winterization and heat tracing of the water treatment plant. The transportation and assembly of the temporary fabric structure (tent) was started. Sevenson’s soil mix wall subcontractor, Geocon, completed the disassembly and removal of the crane from the site. No soil was transported from the site.

Sevenson’s dewatering subcontractor, Griffin, started the operation of the excavation dewatering system this week. The well points were used to pump groundwater from the excavation footprint to the waste water treatment plant. A total of 508,203 gallons of treated water from the wastewater treatment system was discharged from the site.

Two-Week Outlook

Sevenson is expected to continue erection of the temporary fabric structure (tent).  Site clearing activities will continue to prepare for installation of the temporary fabric cover. Maintenance (winterization and heat tracing) and operation of the water treatment plant will be ongoing for the next week.

Sevenson’s dewatering subcontractor will continue the operation of the excavation dewatering system in the coming weeks. Groundwater removed from the excavation footprint will be pumped to the waste water treatment plant and discharged.

National Grid contractors will continue working in Long Island Avenue to address sewer line issues. Work will continue to complete an inspection of the sewer line and conduct any necessary repairs.

General hours of operation will continue to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To maintain the ambitious schedule for the project, beginning Saturday, January 3, for a period of at least two months, work on the site will also be conducted on Saturdays, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
