Sevenson Environmental, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, continued mobilization of equipment and materials, and winterization and heat tracing of the water treatment plant. Transportation of the temporary fabric structure (TFS) from Las Vegas, NV commenced with arrival at the site expected early next week. Eight (8) loads of soil mix wall spoils were transported from the site to a thermal treatment facility in Southeast Pennsylvania facility.
Due to a slight exceedance of total suspended solids (TSS) over the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) permit limits detected in the discharge water, Sevenson’s dewatering subcontractor, Griffin, did not operate the excavation dewatering system this week. Bench-scale tests were conducted on the discharge water to determine a course of action in removing TSS from the discharge water. The results of the testing indicated that the addition a water treatment chemical, commonly used in water purification and in water treatment plants, would reduce TSS in the discharge water. The NYSDEC approved the modification in the water treatment plant and appended the discharge permit. To date, a total of 819,080 gallons of treated water from the wastewater treatment system has been discharged from the site.

Two-Week Outlook
Sevenson is expected to begin erection of the TFS. Site clearing activities will continue in preparation of the installation of the TFS. Completion of the winterization and heat tracing and operation of the water treatment plant will be ongoing for the next week.
Sevenson’s dewatering subcontractor will continue the operation of the excavation dewatering system in the coming weeks. Groundwater removed from the excavation footprint will be pumped to the waste water treatment plant and discharged.
National Grid contractors will continue working in Long Island Avenue to address sewer line issues. Work will continue to complete an inspection of the sewer line and conduct any necessary repairs.
General hours of operation will continue to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To maintain the ambitious schedule for the project, beginning Saturday, January 3, for a period of at least two months, work on the site will also be conducted on Saturdays, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
