Sevenson Environmental, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, completed soil excavation and backfilling within the second temporary fabric structure (TFS) location. 738.33 tons of MGP-impacted soils were transported from the site to a thermal treatment facility in Southeast Pennsylvania; bringing the total amount of soil removed from the second TFS excavation location to 4,577.80 tons. The total amount of soil removed from the site to date is 15,357.83 tons. Relocation of the TFS to the third location was completed on February 28.
Sevenson’s dewatering subcontractor, Griffin, continued operation the excavation dewatering system through mid-week until backfilling operations were completed. Dewatering wellpoints and headers were removed from the second excavation location and placement of new wellpoints at the third and fourth TFS locations began. 709,471 gallons of water was treated this week, bringing the total amount of treated water discharged from the site to 4,916,248 gallons.

Two-Week Outlook
Access road re-alignment for on-site truck traffic, site grading, and site maintenance activities will continue in preparation for excavation activities at the third TFS location. Placement of the air handling unit, dewatering pumps, and other ancillary equipment will begin early next week. Soil excavation and backfilling at the current location of the TFS is scheduled to begin mid-week and continue through the following week. Backfill material will continue to be delivered to the site on an as-needed basis.
Sevenson’s dewatering subcontractor will complete installation of the dewatering wellpoints and headers and began dewatering operations at the third location early next week and continue through the following week. Groundwater removed from the new excavation footprint will be pumped to the water treatment plant and discharged.
National Grid contractors are scheduled to begin repairs of the sewer line in Long Island Avenue Wednesday and Thursday evening. The work is scheduled to be conducted during the overnight hours to minimize impacts to those businesses and residences affected by the repair. During this time, one lane of Long Island Avenue from Main Street to Bridge Street will be closed with traffic controls in place to support 2-way traffic flow on Long Island Avenue.
General hours of operation will continue to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
