Moving the temporary fabric structure (TFS) to position six location |
Sevenson Environmental, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, began the dismantling of the temporary fabric structure (TFS) this week. Utility crews were on site to reconnect the water line and install below grade conduit from Bridge Street to Long Island Avenue. During water line re-installation, an additional 102.90 tons of lead-impacted soils were removed and transported to a facility in Vineland, New Jersey for stabilization prior to disposal. The total amount of soil removed from the site to date is 34,394.20 tons.
Sevenson’s dewatering subcontractor, Griffin, decontaminated their equipment and demobilized it from the site on Tuesday, April 22. Due to the rain showers early in the week, the water treatment plant treated and discharged 107,031 gallons of stormwater pumped from the site. The total amount of treated water discharged from the site is 15,300,435 gallons.

Two-Week Outlook
Sevenson will continue the breakdown of the TFS with the structure anticipated to be completely dismantled by late next week or early the following week. Demobilization of the TFS and other decontaminated equipment will continue in the upcoming weeks. Water treatment plant personnel will continue the removal insulation and heat tracing from the water treatment plant and begin sludge removal from water collection vessels. Miller Environmental, a Sevenson subcontractor, will begin a partial removal of the water discharge line in Sag Harbor next week. Portions of the water treatment plant will be decommissioned and decontaminated beginning late next week; however, the water treatment plant will remain in operation to treat any potential stormwater or additional site water that may be generated during placement of below grade utilities. Site grading and site maintenance activities will continue in the upcoming weeks. During site grading activities, it is anticipated that non-MGP-impacted soils will be generated. This material will be transported from the site for thermal treatment. Delivery of approved material to be used to achieve final grade will commence in the upcoming weeks.

Utility crews again are scheduled to return to the site to complete the reconnection of underground utilities from Bridge Street to Long Island Avenue. The work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 27 and continue through to the end of the week. Long Island Avenue at the intersection with Bridge Street will be closed Wednesday morning at 7 AM and reopened no later than 12 PM Thursday afternoon while utility crews install a new sewer manhole in Long Island Avenue. Detours will be posted at Garden Street and Main Streets; however vehicular traffic will be permitted to access the businesses along the eastern portion of Long Island Avenue. At all other times this week, traffic controls will be in place to support 2-way traffic along Long Island Avenue while the remaining utilities are reconnected. Once the underground utilities are replaced, resurfacing of Bridge Street and the portion of Long Island Avenue north of Bridge Street will commence.
General hours of operation will continue to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Regular Saturday work has been discontinued.
