Sevenson Environmental, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, continued decontamination of equipment and demobilization of equipment and supplies from the site. Sevenson’s survey contractor, Nelson & Pope, completed the site survey to establish sub- and final grades; and Sevenson began importing a natural stone blend material to bring the site to final grade. Utility crews completed work on site and along Bridge Street and Long Island Avenue to reconnect underground utilities across the site. Utility excavations and site grading activities resulted in the removal of 1,364.40 tons of non-MGP impacted soils that were transported to a thermal treatment facility in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The total amount of soil removed from the site to date is 36,197.37 tons.
The water treatment plant treated and discharged 153,428 gallons of additional stormwater pumped from the site, decontamination water and groundwater pumped from the excavation of utility trenches. The total amount of treated water discharged from the site is 15,415,998 gallons.![]() Sevenson demobilizing two loads of equipment. |
Two-Week Outlook
Sevenson will continue with the demobilization of decontaminated equipment and unused supplies from the site and the importation of the natural stone blend to the site. Sevenson’s paving contractor will begin restoration of curbing and sidewalks along Long Island Avenue the middle of next week, followed by the resurfacing of Long Island Avenue and Bridge Street and the refurbishment of the Village parking lot on Meadow Street. Water treatment plant personnel will begin sludge removal and stabilization from water collection vessels and the decommissioning and decontamination of the water treatment plant. Any remaining decontamination and/or site water collected will be transported off site for proper treatment and disposal. Site grading activities will continue in the upcoming weeks with non-MGP-impacted soils generated. This material, along with the stabilized sludge generated from the cleaning of the water treatment plant will be transported from the site for thermal treatment.

Utility crews will again return to the site to begin the removal of the utility lines that were temporarily placed above ground to facilitate the excavation of MGP-impacted soils below Bridge Street. Traffic controls will be in place to support 2-way traffic along Long Island Avenue while the water discharge line is removed. Once removed, milling and repaving of Bridge Street and Long Island Avenue will commence. Traffic controls and/or detours will be posted prior to the resurfacing of Long Island Avenue.
General hours of operation will continue to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
